With way too many jargons, ordering coffee seems difficult. Read on to figure out the different types of coffee beans and roasts.
Arabica: Compared to Robusta, Arabica beans are less intense, have less caffeine, and have more subtle flavours. Most highly favoured beans throughout the world are of the Arabica variety. It can be used for French press or Drip filter
Robusta: Robusta beans contain twice as much caffeine than Arabica. They often taste bitter and harsh. High quality Robusta is used primarily as espresso, instant coffee or pod coffee
There is no ‘correct’ roast. Roasting brings out the flavours of coffee beans. The process of roasting adds its own flavour, that may alter the characteristics of the bean.
Light roasts: are typically the most acidic without much body. It usually roasts for 9 minutes. It has a fruity smell.
Medium roasts: are slightly less acidic and begin to develop different taste notes. Roasts for around 16 minutes. They have a sweet taste.
Dark roasts : have lower acidity. The roasting process brings about a certain sweetness and the taste of the roasting process takes over. Roasts for 30 minutes. They have a smoky and bitter taste.
